Salwah Arifin

 

Well-known for his talent in drawing and illustrating, Salwa is undoubtedly one of our most creative teachers. With his young and fresh ideas, our cultural events and gatherings have always been fun. This 20 year old from Jakarta was also a student of Al Amin Islamic boarding school, where he learned how to memorize Qur’an. Together with other teachers, he teaches Qur’an class to the younger children.

 

Salwah is a very persistent person. He believes that no matter how many times you failed, you have to keep trying, and keep trying hard. “Just act, don’t talk too much”, he said with a big smile, which has become his trademark.

 

He enjoys his time in As Sakinah. Teaching the children has helped him to not only review his knowledge of Al Qur’an, but also has challenged him to be responsible with his duty. He learned to manage his tasks, even if sometimes he made mistakes, he learns from it.

 

Last January, during our Maulid Nabi event, Salwah joined the Cimande group led by Adam. Salwah admitted that he never done a martial art before, but he found his experience with the boys to be exciting. Another one of his unforgettable moments with As Sakinah was when he has to ‘clean’ one of As Sakinah youngest student after the student went to the bathroom.

 

“The student’s older brother was not around, so I had to do it because he does not how to clean himself!” He chuckled while telling us the stories. He said that in As Sakinah we are all brothers and sisters, so every one has to step in for the ‘cleaning’ duty, haha.But of all, Salwah hopes that all children of As Sakinah will be successful and be able to achieve their dreams.
